It is a decision for the parties involved, but there are benefits of voluntary registration one of which is that once registered, the deeds do not have to be produced on any sale and so it is of less importance if they are lost or stolen. The land registry shows that when the garden was extended (the council sold off parts of woodland behind the house) in 1995 there was a section of the garden in the middle which wasn't included.
